This is our early adventure into the world of Virtual Production. Originally envisaged as camera and tech test, we decided to make something that would be nice to look at and listen to, as well as tell a decent story in a short space of time. Featuring dancer/choreographer Mansi Harvey, with music and voice provided by Alice Mills, Among the Cherry Trees is a magical realist portrayal of a forest nymph beckoning her human visitors to be more respectful of the precious environment from which she emanates.

Remember the Future
The C-CATS team is delighted to have been commissioned by the University of Surrey’s amazing newly minted Institute for Sustainability to create a special animation to support the Institute’s work. Produced and Directed by Jon Weinbren, teaming up with co-writer Tom Hill and featuring the amazing skills of Animation Director Izzy Barszcz and the musical and vocal talents of Alice Mills, we have named the film “Remember the Future”. It looks at the past, present and possible future of a sustainable planet and sustainable living. We partnered with the Institute’s key people, Lorenzo Fioramonti and Nathalie Hinds to develop the ideas behind the animation. A celebratory special screening was held on World Environment Day, Monday 5th June 2023. Keep your eyes here for some sneak previews and trailers coming soon.

EVNE (Exploring the Virtual Nature of Emotion)
EVNE offers the opportunity to experiment with how different characters respond to different situations through emotional expression and outward behaviour. It will comprise of a set of adjustable scenarios which the student can parametrically ‘direct’ to see how the characters respond. These sequences are interactive: ‘adjustments’ can be made at critical points to affect evolving outcomes; more radically, students can zoom into the ‘body-mind’ spaces of each character to explore different theories of what may be occurring both physiologically and neurologically.
